AKP has the 353 of the total 550 seats in Parliament of Turkey and their votes are enough to choose the new president. [[w:Prime Minister of Turkey|Prime Minister]] [[w:Recep Tayyip Erdoğan|Recep Tayyip Erdoğan]] made the announcement on Tuesday that Gül had been named the governing AKP's choice.
